Biography

Joseph Butler was a Kentuckian.
Joseph Butler was a Hoosier.

Joseph William Butler was born on 30 Mar 1800 in Kentucky. He was the son of William Butler II (abt.1762-1843) and Katrina Elizabeth Jacoby (1765-abt.1810).

He married Drucilla King on 3 Apr 1829 in Pope County, Illinois.[1] [2] Their children:

The 1850 Census[3] shows him at age 50 with his wife and eleven children in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri.

Joseph Butler died on 16 Sep 1852 in Middletown, Montgomery County, Missouri, and was buried on his own property. Today his grave is all alone in a wooded area on private property. [4]

Research Notes

The 1850 Census says he was born in Indiana; his FindAGrave profile says he was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky. The Kentucky birthplace is more likely given the time line of his siblings' births.

Butler-28457 and Butler-235 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate; same wife, same parents. The 1850 Census says he was born in Indiana; the Find A Grave profile says he was born in Kentucky, which is more likely given the birth places of his elder siblings. The marriage date is 1829.
