Land Transaction: Thwing Collection mentions transaction with Peter Till and confirmation to widow Elizabeth Till 3 April 1680. [8] Suffolk Deed (11:308)[9] This mortgage was cancelled 19 Sept. 1687 w/ the original document presented by Stephen Butler's eldest son (unnamed).

Eldest Son: Is it possible Stephen's oldest child was named John, born 1653? Boston records clearly show the name was Benjamin. The "Butleriana" work says Benjamin (2nd born) married Susannah Gallup. While there appears to be no record of who Susannah Gallup wed, Torrey couldn't settle on John or Benjamin Butler as her partner. A John Butler was named in Nathaniel Gallup's (father of Susannah) will and died in 1713, age 60. John Butler (abt.1653-abt.1713). Unfortunately, no connection has been found between Stephen and this John Butler. He was not mentioned specifically in the 1667 will of Stephen Butler's mother Mary Butler Ward.

Research Notes

He may be the Stephen Butler, son of Mary Unknown (Butler) Ward (abt.1598-) and her spouse, _____ Butler, and may have come to New England with his mother, along with her 2nd spouse, Benjamin Ward (abt.1598-1666), and family.[10] If he was the son of Mary ( ) Butler, he must have been born before 1623 when his widowed mother married Benjamin Ward.
