Biography

The New Orleans Greys

George D Butler was born 1813, in Missouri Territory. When grown, George Butler set out for Texas.

George Butler turned south and stopped by New Orleans. [1] [2]New Orleans is where the company was formed called New Orleans Greys. They were well funded, had food, uniforms, rifles, and a cannon. Thus were well equipped for any problem. He joined these Greys in New Orleans and traveled to Texas with them. [3]

George D Butler reached the Alamo and was assigned to the Alamo Garrison.[4] [5]

George D Butler was killed in the Battle of the Alamo March 6, 1836. [6] A memorial is in San Fernando Cemetery. [7]


Note: Heirs were awarded land bounty by the Republic of Texas. George Butler 1476 Acres
