DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
This profile, for John Butler-6745, was originally created to represent the John Butler who died in 1679 in Branford, New Haven (Jacobus, Families of Ancient New Haven, page 372). A birth year of 1630 was entered as an estimate. A later change to the Butler-6745 profile added as his father, John Butler-24663. This was based on a FamilySearch person named John Butler (LY79-FMC) who married Ann Fletcher in 1645 in Adel, Yorkshire, England.
When Butler-6745 was created there was already a WikiTree profile for John Butler of Branford: Butler-2087. In 1645 John Butler-2087 was living in New Haven (not England), and having children with one of his two wives, neither of whom was Ann Fletcher. It is clear that the wrong father was attached to this profile (Butler-6745) for John Butler of Branford, New Haven.
In preparation for the proposed the merge of Butler-6745 and Butler-2087, I have removed Butler-24663 as his father. I have also removed the information that he was born 1 January 1630 in Westbury, Wiltshire, England, as that information apparently belongs to a different John Butler.
Butler-3349 and Butler-2087 appear to represent the same person because: there is nothing in -2087 except dod, pod and the suggestion of a daughter Elizabeth all of which matches -3349
