George Grey Butler was the eldest son of George Butler and Josephine Grey. He entered the civil service and finally became Senior Permanent Examiner to the Civil Service Commission. He married Maria ("Mia") St. Paul in 1893 and her family gave them Ewart Park in Northumberland. This 1500 acre estate had been in the St. Paul family for generations. They had three children: Horace, Hetha and Irene. Ewart Park was sold in 1937 after George's death in 1935. Soldiers were billeted there during WWII.
