Biography

Dr. William Butler was the Surgeon General to Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans. Dr. Butler was also the founder of Jackson, TN. He also campaigned against Davy Crocket for on of Tennessee's Congressional seats. Dr. Butler and his brothers became very close the Andrew Jackson since they were taken in by the Jackson family when their father, Thomas Butler died, when they were still small children. In fact, Dr, Butler married on of Mrs. Jackson's nieces, (Patsy) Martha Thompson Hayes. See attached sources for more biography on Dr. Butler.
