Biography

Too common a name to be absolutely certain of the birth index although there are several possible births about the right place and time.

In 1881, Henry (Harry) Butler (1852-1916) was lodging with Mary Chapman, a friend of his parents and possibly a relative, in her house at Kew, as was his sister Mary Ann, now a post-office clerk. The following year, in 1882, he was married in Hounslow to Emma Mary Clement. They had two children, Henry (Harry) Thomas in 1883 and Emma (Cissy) Amelia in 1885, both born in Hounslow. In 1890, Henry’s wife, Emma died and he moved with his parents-in-law to live at 39 Gibbon Road, Kingston on Thames. In 1901 he was still living with them together with his two children but had changed his occupation from jeweller’s engraver to general engineer. His son Henry Thomas was a solicitor’s clerk, whilst Emma was still at school.
