Biography
Hepzibah, or Hepsibeth, was born in Essex, Massachusetts, about 1790, the daughter of Ralph and Esther (Burnham) Butler. She was baptized in Ipswich, Massachusetts, on June 26, 1796.[1]
She was "of Ipswich" at the time she and Daniel Mears, also of Ipswich, filed their intentions to marry, on February 17, 1819.[2] They married a month later. They resided in Essex, where their eleven children were born:
- Daniel, 1819-1906
- David, 1821-1841
- Francis, 1822-1909
- Hepzibeth, 1823-1906
- Eliza, b. 1825, apparently died young
- Simon, 1827-1897
- Eliza, 1828-1870
- Emily, b. 1829, apparently died young
- Edward, 1830-1834
- Emily, 1833-1915
- Martha Ann, 1836-1900
She died when she was 90 years old, in 1881.[3] She is buried at the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex.[4]
