Biography
Henry BUTTERWORTH was baptized on 27 February 1601/2, at St. John the Baptist Church, Halifax, Yorkshire, England, son of Henry Butterworth, Sr. [1]and died in Weymouth, Massachusetts about 1636.[2]
He married on 02 February 1626/27, Halifax, Yorkshire, England, to Mary (Marie) Longbotham born in 1600, who died, probably in Newport, R.I., 26 January 1687. She married, secondly, between 28 Jan. and 28 Feb. 1640-41, THOMAS CLIFTON, born probably in England, in 1606, died, probably in Newport, 7 July 1681.[3]
Henry migrated in 1635, settling in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[4]With him when he migrated, was probably his wife Mary and three children - Abraham, John, and Mary.[2]
In the Proprietors' Records, [5] is a list of those people who were earlier granted land in "The great lots named in the old town book and formerly granted to be laid out on the East side of Fresh Pond..." In this list, "widow Butterworth", had been given fourteen acres and Samuel Butterworth sixteen acres, but Thomas Clifton does not appear receiving any land.
Henry's estate inventory (undated) was filed in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. It is the only known original record that he lived in Massachusetts Bay. The witnesses were Edward Bate, William Carpenter and Richard Adams, all of Weymouth and it indicates that Henry had died 4 years earlier and that his children had worn out all his wearing apparel; indicating a death of about 1636.[2]
John Butterworth was baptized at Halifax on Sept 16, 1627 and died at Bristol, Rhode Island just prior to September 1, 1708 when his estate was inventoried. M abt 1650 to Sarah _____. M 2nd about 1697-1700 to Hannah (Bowerman) Fry, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Bowerman of Barnstable.
Abraham Butterworth (twin) was baptized at Hepstonstall, Yorks on August 9, 1629 and died after October 13, 1684 when he is named in the will of hin uncle Samuel Butterworth. His wife's name has not been found but he had a daughter named Ann.
Mary Butterworth (twin) was baptized at Heptonstall, Yorks. on August 9, 1629 and died at Rehoboth, Massachusetts Bay Colony on August 20, 1714. She married Sampson Mason about 1650.
Samuel Butterworth, baptized January 6, 1631/2; no additional records.
Henry Butterworth, baptized May 26, 1634 at Halifax; no additional records.
Research Notes
This may very well be the father of Mary Butterworth, wife of Sampson Mason, as Mason was a noted Baptist. The only child that Savage acknowledges as possibly John's is John of Rehoboth who m. Hannah Wheaton 4 Sept. 1674.[6]
Baptism: Some sources have 28 Feb 1601/2. However, the original image shows the date as 27 Feb 1601, listed directly above the 28 February baptisms and below the 25 February baptisms on the list. At first glance the date looks like "21", but closer inspection confirms it as "27" (between 25 and 28).
Although Henry was the son of a Henry, there is no supporting evidence included here that either of them used the suffix "Jr." or "Sr." during their lifetime (it is the unfortunate practice of many to add such suffixes for the convenience of the researcher)

The biography currently says "With him when he migrated, was probably his wife Mary and three children - Abraham, John, and Mary." I don't have access to that source (subscription required), so I am wonder if it says anything about his younger sons Samuel and Henry who were born before the 1635 immigration. Could they have stayed in England with relatives until a later date (so that all the children would not be exposed to the hazards of ocean travel at the same time)?
The 1631 arrival year is apparently incorrect, because he was still baptizing children back in England in 1632 and 1634.
The Great Migration Directory (page 53) gives an arrival year of 1635, which makes more sense. I have therefore changed the arrival year to 1635, under the heading "Event" in the biography, and changed the source to The Great Migration Directory (which in turn gives the following source: New England Historical and Genealogical Record, Vol. 168, pages 58-61).

Butterworth-134 and Butterworth-27 do not represent the same person because: Butterworth-134 is John Butterworth, brother of Henry. The first name Henry should be dropped and putting John as his first name. Then I would suggest that Butterworth-134 should be merged with Butterworth-463: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Butterworth-463
The source "West Yorkshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1512-1812" shows that Henry was baptized in February 1602 (son of Henry Sr.) at St. John the Baptist Church, Halifax, Yorkshire, and that he was married there on 02 February 1626/27 (their first names spelled Henrie and Marie). His parents were married there in 1595.
The Great Migration Directory (page 53) gives an arrival year of 1635, which makes more sense.
