Biography

Samuel Butterworth was baptized on 05 February 1609, St. John the Baptist Church, Halifax, Yorkshire, England. Source: West Yorkshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1512-1812; the brother of Henry Butterworth[1]

The Great Migration Directory (Anderson, 2015, page 53) says that he came to Massachusetts in 1635.

Samuel mas made freeman of Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1640[2][3].

He was taxed at Rehoboth in 1643, on a valuation of £50, and a proprietor in land there in 1645. He made his will October 13, 1684, proved March 3, 1685.

He died unmarried, with no children. His will was executed in Rehoboth on October 13, 1684, and proved on March 3, 1684.[1]He mentions many cousins, Abraham Butterworth of Rhode Island, John Butterworth of Swansea, William Hayward of Swansea, the two sons of his cousin John Butterworth ( Samuel and Benjamin), Mary Mason of Swansea, widow, Mary Mason's two sons (Noah and Samuel), and Ann Butterworth, daughter of Abraham Butterworth.[4]

According to The Great Migration Directory (Anderson, 2015; page 53), Samuel Butterworth immigrated in 1635 (the same year as his brother Henry).
