Biography of Adelaide Lute Byer Mann

Adelaide Lute Byer was born on September 9, 1875, in West Virginia. Her father, Michael Byer , was 26 and her mother, Dora Stanley , was 23. Addie Lute Byer lived in Williams, Wood County, West Virginia, in 1880. In 1891 Addie's mother Dora Celia died in a carriage accident on October 20, 1891, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, at the age of 39. Addie's mother Dora was driving the family carriage and Rachel, Addie's sister, was the only passenger. "Apparently a passing train was approaching the street crossings in Williamstown and the locomotive sounded its steam whistle several times. The horses became frightened and bolted with the carriage. It left the road, ran into a fence, and Dora was thrown head first against one of the posts killing her instantly. In fact, it is inscribed on her tombstone, "killed by team.'"(This story is told by Michael Beier Rolston, grandson of Rachel. Michael Rolston further writes: "Jock Bedell Henderson, my great grandfather, made note of the event in his journal the following day: 'Yesterday Mike Byer's team ran away with their carriage with Mrs. Byer and a young daughter. It overturned killing Mrs. Byer."

Addie was married first to a Mr. C. A. Bee. One source gives his name as Ephraim. He had a son, C. C. Bee from a previous marriage. Addie and her second husband George Mann raised him.

She married George Mann on July 18, 1910. She lived her whole life in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia. Her husband George T. passed away on December 19, 1936, in Wood County, West Virginia, at the age of 66. They had been married 26 years.

She died on May 23, 1951, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, at the age of 75. She and her husband George are buried in Mr. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV.
