Biography

Emma Byrd was born on Oct 21, 1910 in Mississippi, USA as the third child of Henry Hamilton Byrd and Annie Leona Anderson.

She had nine siblings, namely: Olive, Curtis, James Edward Sr, Flora, Fannie Mae, Jeff, Elizabeth, Infant Brother, and Katherine.

She died on Aug 08, 2008 in Magee, Simpson, Mississippi, USA (Magee General Hospital; Age at Death: 97).

Emma Byrd was buried in Mize, Smith, Mississippi, USA (Fairmount Waco Cemetery). [1]

John Berlie Steward was married first to Emma Byrd. [2] Timothy Hubert Luckey [3] was married to Emma Byrd.

Obituary

Emma Byrd Luckey of Mize passed away August 8, 2008 in Magee Hospital. Born October 21, 1910, Emma was 97 at the time of her death.

Her funeral was held Sunday, August 10 at Colonial Chapel in Magee. She was buried in the Waco-Fairmount Cemetery near Mize beside her first husband John Berlie Steward who died in 1945 leaving her to raise three daughters Valeria, Geraldine, and Cecil Rose. Her second marriage to Timothy Hubert Luckey added three more daughters and a son to her family. She made no distinction in her affections for any of her numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was known as Grandma, Grandma Luckey, Grandma "Yuckey", Aunt Emma, "Immer", and Maw. In the sixties she was widely known for running the general store at the TH Luckey sawmill north of Mize. She was also highly regarded for her sewing, quilting, and cooking, especially hand-made biscuits. She spent the last decades of her life living in her apartment in the home of her daughter Geraldine Ford near Mize until Geraldine passed away. She spent her last year at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Magee. A devout Christian, Emma's church membership was with Waco Church of God near Mize.

Emma Luckey is survived by her daughters Valeria Elois Steward Little, Cecil Rose Steward Shriver, Fannie Luckey Meadows, Daisy Luckey Easterling, and Eloise Luckey Hancock; a brother, Jeff Byrd; sisters, Flora Byrd LaRue, Jane Elizabeth Byrd Adcock, and Annie Katherine Byrd Arrington; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Hamilton Byrd and Annie Leona Anderson Byrd, her brothers Curtis Byrd, James Edward Byrd, and a still-born unnamed brother, her sisters Olive Byrd Wade and Fannie Mae Byrd Magee, husbands John Berlie Steward and Timothy Hubert Luckey, a daughter Francis Geraldine Steward Ford, and a son Andrew Blackmon.

Ministers at her funeral were Rev. Michael Hodgin and Rev. Don Cleeb. Music was provided by Luckey and Kay Easterling. Pallbearers were Tim Hancock, Doug Hancock, Paul Hancock, John Little, Dennis Ford, and Adam Ford. [4]
