Mary is John Byrne’s (b1835) sister according to Maude Byrne, who would be Mary’s grandniece. The relationship is confirmed by Mary's Wisconsin death certiface which lists Mary's parent's names as Patrick Byrne and Mary Ellwood. These are the same parent names that are found on John Byrne's death certificate. Mary’s tombstone in Ettrick Cemetery says she died at age 92 in August 1925 (ergo b.1832, giving a November birthmonth). The 1870 census for NJ shows she was 25 ergo b 1834. The 1880 census for WI shows Mary with age 47 ergo b 1832. The 1900 census says she was born in Nov. 1837 and was age 62. The 1900 census also says both she and her husband entered the US in 1860 and have been in the US for 39 years. The 1910 census says she was 77 in 1910 ergo b 1832. Her death certificate gives an 1833 birth year matched with a specific birth date. Since the death certificate year is close to most of the others, it will be used for this tree. The 1900 census says they had been married 37 years, which would give them an 1863 marriage year. The 1920 US census has her living in Winona with her daughter, Ann, and her granddaughter, Alice. It also indicates that Mary immigrated to the US in 1860. Alice’s husband, Ben Morrison, is also with them. This same 1920 census indicates she was naturalized in 1875.
