Biography

Phoebe Caddell was born about 1766 in Caswell County, North Carolina. She married Burwell Green (1765 - 1829) and had children Elizabeth Naomi Green Gibson (1794 - 1860) and William L Green (1799 - 1865) both buried in same cemetery. She passed away in Mar 1845. in St. Clair County, Alabama [1]

Research Notes

PHOEBY CADDEL, daughter of Andrew Jr. and Jean (Henderson) CADDEL, was born (1768) in Orange County, NC, which later became Caswell County where she was raised and married. She later lived in Person County, NC, Pendleton District, SC and finally St. Clair County, AL where she died.

Burwell and Phoeby lived west of Ashville at the current junction of highways 231 and 53. Family tradition says that Andrew Caddel, father of Phoeby, lived with the Burwell GREEN Family.

Burwell Jr. was sheriff of St. Clair County in 1832. Lewis (Tius) GREEN

On 4 Dec 1837, St Clair County, AL, Burwell GREEN Jr., came to court to file vouchers for final settlement of Burwell GREEN's estate.

On 12 May 1838, St Clair County, AL, records showed inventory and bill of sale for his estate. Phoeby came to court, 1 Feb and 20 May 1844, to get dowery from Burwell's estate land.

Their children were listed as Burwell GREEN Jr., Margaret Walker Elizabeth Gibson, Jane GREEN CADDEL (widow), William GREEN, Lewis (Tius) GREEN, and Lucy Hardwick.

St. Clair County court minutes of 1842 - 1847, March 1845, page 469 reads as follows, "Phoeby (CADDEL) GREEN died while court was in session."
