Fred was a professional baseball player, hit on the head by a ball in a game, and it resulted in his death. Ona moved back to Oklahoma, to be near her family, settling in Pond Creek, where she supported her family by taking in washing, with considerable help by her older children, backed by her sister Alice. Ona put her 2 youngest sons through college by running a boarding house for students.
