Biography

Conflicting records - attempting to clarify but info from US GenWEb Archives and Rootsweb suggests Martha Ann Cain dies before her father, who died in 1834. These records also list Sarah Alston as her mother instead of Rachel Haven. After more research on her I may change this. Sarah Alston married William Cain on May 28th, 1783. Sarah was at that time a widow of Thomas Dudley. I fear we may be mixing up two families, which is why the hesitation to change mother. It is also noted in these other records that William Cain was born in 1743 and died on 7/28/1834, We have him born in 1747 and death in 1818.

Rachel is listed as born in 1747. If Martha Ann Cain's birth year is correct as 1799, that put's Rachel at 52 years old at her birth. Highly unlikely. One point toward Sarah Alston as mother.

A search for Rachel Haven yielded no results. There are other sources stating Sarah Alston married William Cain and is the mother of John Cain, Martha Ann's sibling. For now I am merging these two profiles. We can add Rachel Haven at a later date should she resurface. This is to avoid orphaning her profile.
