Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
My name is Kenneth Albert Caldwell, Aka Al Caldwell. I was born in Artesia, California. Im a Navy Veteran. My wife and I have been married 62 years. After being discharged I went to school on the GI Bill to learn to be an aircraft mechanic. Aviation was my first career in Long Beach CA. After 22 years I sold my business and thought I was going to retire.
But then I bought a pear and walnut orchard in Kelseyville CA. After 13 years I sold the ranch and built a house on a hill in Kelseyville. After living in the house 13years I sold the house and moved to Twain Harte, CA. to be closer to one of our sons.
My wife and I were snow birds and traveled all over this great country, Alaska and Canada. We had a small dog that traveled with us and she saw more of this country than most people have.
I had a plan to go to all four corners of the USA. Also to the highest, lowest and the center. I made them all except the one on the east corner.
Hi Al, forgot to mention that if you wish to add your tree to WikiTree to help with our mission to create a single, shared family tree, you will need to volunteer first. If you wish to see the GedMatches that is fine as you can do this as a guest.
To export a gedcom file in Family Tree Maker 2012, once you have the tree open
Click on the File menu (top left hand side) and select Export.
Under Output format select GEDCOM 5.5 (standard)
Select the items you wish to include such as facts, notes etc.
Click OK
Choose a file name for the GEDCOM file and note in which folder the file is stored and click save.
Family Tree Maker will show a progress dialog and when export is completed a box will show saying Sucess Export completed, click OK and you're done.
The gedcom file stored on your computer is what you are going to upload to WikiTree. You can upload a gedcom for GEDMATCHES or import a gedcom to add your tree to WikiTree. Full instructions can be found HERE.
See how you get on with these instructions and if you would like further help just post a message on my profile page.
3. Our help pages, top right, have all sorts of useful information.
If you would like to contribute, click the volunteer button and leave a comment here on your profile to let our greeters know. You should include a little bit about how you plan to contribute to the tree.
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page. Mags
