- Andrew Spence was married at least two time and maybe three. His first wife died shortly after they arrived in South Carolina in 1772. He married a second time to Mary Jane Caldwell. Andrew and his first wife had six children and he and Mary Caldwell had five. Andrew had a son by his first wife named Robert Spence who he called Robert Sr. He and Mary Caldwell also had a son named Robert Spence that they called Robert Jr. It is speculation but I think this was there way of keeping them straight. Both Robert Spence Sr. and Robert Spence Jr. are listed in Andrew's estate papers dated 8/4/1806.
