Biography

Amanda Veturia Caldwell Wilson died at age 73. She was a beloved resident of Payson for 70 years. She died of an illness of only a few days. The news of her passing was a great shock to the community. She was born May 13, 1863 at Fountain Green, a daughter of “Mr. & Mrs. Caldwell” according to her obituary. Her mother died when she was only a few days old. She came to Payson as a small child to live with her uncle, John Harvey Moore.

She was married to Mr. Wilson in the old Salt Lake Endowment House on December 14, 1882 with six young couples who went from Payson in wagons. She was very adept at nursing and was frequently called into the homes of friends and relatives.

She was the mother of 13 children.

All the business houses in Payson were closed during the period of the funeral services. Teachers and students from the Payson schools were in attendance as representatives of the student bodies.
