Biography

Maleta Lee Calkins was born on February 2, 1901 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Perry James and Harriet B. (Boersema) Calkins. She married George Owen on November 27, 1922. They were divorced on September 26, 1924 in Denver, Colorado and she legally reclaimed her maiden name. She married Herbert Mitchell Widdicombe on February 26, 1930, in Edgewater, Jefferson, Colorado. They were divorced on June 30, 1931 in Denver, Colorado and she legally reclaimed her maiden name. She worked for the Rocky Mountain News in the 1940s. She died on July 14, 1997 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 96, and was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
