Asa (also found as Asa Stanley Calkin) was born on July 5, 1809 in New York, United States. [1][2][3][4]
He was the son of John Calkins and Lucy Kellogg. [5]
He passed away on February 15, 1873 in the Utah Territory, United States. [6][7]
Asa filled a mission to England from 1855-1860. On his arrival in Liverpool, December 9, 1855, he was assigned to the business department of the Mission Office; he also acted as first counselor to President Samuel W. Richards. On March 6, 1858, when the other Elders from Zion were called home, he was appointed president of the British Mission, and assumed also the editorship of the "Millennial Star", which position he held until April 7, 1860. Asa sailed May 11, 1860, for America on the ship "William Tapscott." [8]
