Elon was born in 1808. He was the son of Elijah Calkins and Keziah Rogers.

Elon Calkins and Polly Unknown married on 25 April 1848 in Dekalb, Indiana. It was the 2nd marriage for both[1]
Elon, Polly, her three Chappell children, and their more recent three children, were enumerated in the 1850 census of East Lima, LaGrange, Indiana.[2]
