Harry was born in 1866. He was the son of Turner Calkins and Eliza Fowler. He passed away in 1882 at the age of 15 from "Black Diptheria"
He was a devoted older brother to his sister Blanche. Blanche could not attend school until she moved to Marshall at the age of 9 - so Harry "patiently and kindly passed on to her all that he learned in the schoolroom" (1st hand account from Blanche Calkins MacDowell)
