Biography

Anthony was born about May 1854. He was the eldest child of Davis Calkins and Martha Tubbs.

Anthony married twice. His first wife was Emma Francis (Bridgman) Calkins. The 1900 US Census states Emma never had children. Living with Anthony and Emma in 1900 is Anthony's nephew Herbert Eugene Calkins age 6 who was the son of Anthony's brother Herbert Calkins who passed away in 1897. Herbert also appears with Anthony and Emma at age 11 during the 1905 New York Census. Uncertain if Herbert Eugene lived with Anthony and Emma throughout this period or if he sometimes lived with other family members in the area.

Emma must have passed away before 17 Sep 1908 when Anthony married Sarah Jones in Addison, Steuben, New York. Anthony gained two stepchildren with his second wife Sarah E. Jones. Anthony was Sarah's second husband and she married again after Anthony passed away in 1917.

Research Notes

Earliest record found is the 1855 New York census. It lists Anthony's parents Davis & Martha and a son named Brookins (Anthony's middle name) at age 10 months. He also appears as Brookins Calkins in the 1875 census while working in the James Goodbey household and Anthony in his parents household in the same census.

Anthony's Find A Grave record includes his second wife: Sarah E. Riddlesdin Brink. Apparently, she married three times.
