Lachlan (alternate spellings are Lachlin, Laughlan, Lachlane) was christened March 2, 1830 in Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon, Argyll, Scotland. He was the middle child and had five older siblings and five younger siblings.
He immigrated to Canada sometime between 1842 and 1860, most likely with his parents and siblings, as the entire family is recorded as residing in Ontario after 1841.
He married Margaret Somerville in York, Ontario Oct 31, 1861. Together they had nine children.
In the 1871 census, Lachlan is not listed, but Margaret, Agnes, Euphemia, Margaret, and Mary are all living in Vaughan. Lachlan could have been away at the time of the census.
The 1881 census lists Lachlan and Margaret with six children: Agnes, Euphemia, Margaret, Mary, Colin, and Archibald. They are living in Vaughan, West York, where Lachlan is a farmer.
The 1891 census lists "Laughlan" living with seven children: Euphemia, Margaret, Mary, Colin, Archibald, Catherine, and Jennie - probably Jane. Margaret had passed away the previous year. Margaret may be listed as blind, the marking is unclear. They are living in Vaughan, West York, where Lachlan is a farmer.
Lachlan died January 9, 1918 in Vaughan, Ontario.
