Biography

Married Florence Cameron

James was with the 42nd Regiment of Foot (Royal Highland Regiment) 2nd Battlion, under the command of Colonel Lord John Murrey, Lieutenant Colonel Norman MacLoud, Major Patrick Graham and Lieutenant Dngand Campbell. He fought with the British in the American Revolutionary War. At the end of the Revolutionary War, 100 men elected to take discharge. They arrived in New Brunswick in 1783. They spent the winter in Saint John in the towns of Parr and Carleton. They drew lots for land approximately 50' by 100'. James receaved lot No. 247. The land was covered with dense forest. The Highlanders cut down the trees and cleared the land, building log houses however a fire destroyed Parrtown and the 42nders were forced to move to their grants on the Nashwaak. Later, those in Carleton also went to the Nashwaak.

James Cameron served in the 42nd Higland Regiment: came to NB in 1783 as a Loyalist. He first drew lot 247 in Parrtown, now known as Saint John. James was discharged in 1783. On October 24, 1783 he is settled as being on half pay.

James came to Nashwaak with the 42nd regiment and received Lot 95 of the Campbell Grant. It is on this lot that James Cameron Jr, Son of Alexander was later living.

James settled on the Nashwaak in Saint Marys Parish, York County and is interred in the 42nd Highland Cemetery

James married and had issue,: Alexander Cameron who married Eleanor Ross born 1789 d/o Donald Ross by a second marriage: settled on the Nashwaak and had eleven children. [1][2][3][4][5]

James birth date is unknown but an average birth year would be 1750-1760. Land Grant
