Biography
Esther was born on 10 May 1868, at Newton of Ferintosh, Parish of Urquhart, Ross-shire.[1]
Her parents were Ann Cameron (ms Morrison) and William Cameron, who was a farmer and grocer.
On the 1871 Census, Esther, age 2, is living at Newton, Urquhart, Ross & Cromarty with her family. She had 5 older sisters: Alexandrina (21), Janet (16), Williamina (14), Christina (10) and Catherine (7).
By 1881, only Esther and her parents were listed on the Census at Malchaich, Urquhart and Logie Wester. Her father William was listed as Retired Merchant & Farmer.
In 1891 Esther is listed as Domestic Servant at 7 Ardross Terrace, Inverness. This was the home of James M Chapman, Medical Practitioner and his wife, Eliza Chapman. Also at this address was John Forsyth, Assistant Medical Practitioner, and a cook - Elspeth Macpherson.
On the registration of her marriage to Alexander McDonald, Esther's address was 24 Innes Street, Inverness.
Esther and Alexander were married on 22 March, 1895 in Inverness. [2] Annie Corbett (daughter of Janet) was one of the witnesses.
Her father, William had died a few months before the marriage. (04 September 1894)
Esther was sometimes known as HESTER. Her daughter was Hester Ann and so was her grand daughter (my mother - daughter of Alexander James)
Esther passed away on 03 August 1926. [3] Her death was registered on 04 August "not certified". The Register of Corrected Entries shows the time of death to be about 11.30 at 45 Rose Street, Inverness. Cause of death: Heart Attack. It was signed by Dr Kelly.
