Biography

Donald was born Feb. 26, 1897 in Detroit, Michigan.[1] He registered for the draft in the First World War. He was a student at Yale University at the time and reported his home address as Country Club Road, Gross Pointe, Michigan. The document reported : "has lost use of left arm at elbow and wrist".[2] In the 1918-19 school year he was editor of the Yale Banner & Potpourri, the Yale Yearbook. Stephen Vincent Benet was a co-editor that year, as was Charles Stradella.[3] In 1922, Charles would marry Donald's little sister, Mimi.[4]
Donald accompanied the family on the Hawaii trip in 1920[5][6] and received his passport on the same day as his sisters on June 15, 1921.[7] He would accompany his mother and sister Marjorie (Mimi) to Europe the following year[8] and would return to the Pacific in June 1926 when he visited Yokahama Japan aboard the "Empress of Russia'.[9]
Donald was an artist, a painter. I can not find any record that he ever married. In the 1940 census, he is still listed with his parents, as guests at the Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit.[10]
