Mary Campbell, daughter of James Campbell and Margaret Crawford, was born about 1775 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. She passed away in September 1858 in Warren County, Tennessee.[1]
Following Samuel Hand's service in the Revolutionary War, he eventually settled in York County, South Carolina about 1785. That is where he probably met and married Mary. They lived in Pulaski County, Kentucky from about 1806-1809. The family is in Jefferson, Rutherford County, Tennessee in 1810 and arrived in Warren County, Tennessee by the 1820 census where they remained.[2]
Marriage
Mary Campbell is known as Samuel's wife because she was married to him about 1792 and survived his death to live as his widow until September 1858. She was, however, his second wife. Samuel was married first to (possible) Miss Elkins from about 1782 until at least 1788.
No marriage record has been found for Samuel Hand and Mary Campbell. Their first child, James Campbell Hand, was born on 10 March 1793. Mary (Campbell) Hand, in her Declaration for Military Widow's Pension, states they were married a year before James was born which would be about February 1792 in York County, South Carolina.[3]

Widow Mary Hand, age 75 - born 1775 in South Carolina, is living with daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Elias Green, in Warren County.
