William was born about 1709. He is the son of William Campbell and Mary Byers.
This branch of the Campbell family was outlined in the book "Historic Sumner County, Tennessee." The following bits of info are selected details from the text.[1]
This Campbell family descended from the Campbells of Argyleshire, Scotland.
William Campbell, son of Alexander Campbell, married Mary Byers. They moved to Londonderry, in Ireland, and then moved to America. Their children were: David, William, Elizabeth, Martha, Alexander, Robert, Jane, and Mary.
The son, David, was known as "Black David" to distinguish him from his cousin known as "White David." Black David, born in 1710, married Jane Cunnyngham. David and Jane had four children: William, Mary, Martha, and David.
William, son of Black David, married Mary Ellison, and inherited his father's property.
David, son of Black David, was born in 1753. He married Margaret Campbell, his cousin, who was the daughter of "White David" and Mary Hamilton.
The book further outlines the surviving children of David and Margaret Campbell on page 236.

A mother's death date (Magill-294 died 1680) should not be before one of her children's birth dates (Campbell-11851 born 1730) . A child's death date (Campbell-11851 died 1816) should not be more than 120 years after their mother's death date (Magill-294 died 1680) . This would mean the child lived to be over 120.
