Robert Douglas Campbell, UE (c.1755-1824)
He lived in the American colonies before the Revolution, and there married Mary Smith (c 1771, Voluntown, New London, Connecticut).
It is said he was a law student at the time of the Revolutionary War.
He joined Butler's Rangers in 1776, and rose to the rank of Sergeant-Major.
In a return (30 Nov 1783) he was listed as a 27 year-old sergeant receiving a singe ration. He is listed as a private receiving his pay from 25 Dec 1777 t0 24 Oct 1778 with Captain William Caldwell's company of the same regiment.[1]
In 1782 he married Mary Smith, daughter of Frederick Smith (who served in Capt. Wm. Caldwell's Company of Corps of Rangers.)
By 1786 he, his wife, a son, and a daughter were on a Loyalist Victuralling List.
He had eleven children, four born before 1789. He came to Upper Canada at the reduction of the Corps, and settled in Grantham township, Lincoln County.
They settled on 200 acres along 12-Mile Creek (3d Township of Nassau [Grantham, District of Niagara), Conc. 8, lots 18 &19. By 17 Sept 1787, he had cleared 12 acres, and sown 6 acres of wheat. By 1791 he had added an adjacent 100 acres (Conc. 9, lot 18)
