Biography
James M Campbell was born on 05/01/1830 in Jellico, Whitley County, Kentucky and died on 10/23/1903 in Montague County, Texas. On 04/30/1849, James married Sereptia Ellen Ross (05/07/1833-05/08/1922) in Whitley County, Kentucky. James and Sereptia had 10 children: John (1850-1927), Elizabeth M (1859-_), Marion (1861-1930), Jermiah E (1864-1952), Serepta (1866-1940), Annie (1866-1948), Ethan E (1869-_), Essie (1871-_), James (1871-_) and Mattie ‘Martha’ (1872-1955).
James and Serepta appear with their children John, Dinah, George, and Elizabeth in the 1860 census[1] of Whitley County, p. 712 (same page as his parents, Jasper Campbell and Dinah Green Creekmore, and close to his sister, Mary Campbell West).
One can see from the 1880 census that they were still in Kentucky in 1867 when their son Jeremiah was born, had moved to Tennessee by the 1868 when their twin daughters Annie and Serepta were born, and moved to Arkansas in 1872.
Many other people from Whitley County moved to northwestern Arkansas as well, so they probably had plenty of company.
In 1900 they are in Norman, Oklahoma, with their adult daughter Mattie, a music teacher, living with them, and their son George and his family nearby.
James died in 1903 and is buried in Montague Cemetery, Montague County, Texas.
James Lewis Campbell was born on 1 May 1830 in Jellico Creek, Whitley, Kentucky, United States, son of Jasper Newton Campbell and Dina Green Creekmore.
James married Serepta Ellen Ross on 30 April 1849 in Whitley, Kentucky, United States.
James died in 1903 in Montague, Texas, United States.
