Biography

John Edward Campbell, was born 11 December 1815 in White County, Tennessee. He was the son of Daniel Campbell and Martha Patsy Allison. John Edward Campbell married abt 1835 in White County, Tennessee. He passed away 14 Aug. 1900 in Putnam County, Tennessee.


John’s grandson Jesse Michael Campbell related about his grandfather, “He lived between what is now known as Burgess Community and Ditty in Putnam County, which is believed to be the lands which was also owned by his father, Daniel Campbell.” One land record shows “John E. Campbell entering 330 acres of land on Town Creek between 1854 and 1862.” John married Elizabeth “Besty” McBride in 1835, in White County, TN. In addition to farming his land, John was a potter like his father before him. The children of John E. and Betsy 1 Amanda Minerva (b. 1839) 2 Spartan “Maccah” (b. 1838) married Mary "Polly” Mills 3 Watson “Columbus” (b. 1841) 4 Richard D. (1843-1907) married Mary Ann Carr 5 Surbrina O. (1844-1926) married Hiram Bowman 6 Tabitha “Clementine” (b. 1846) married James Montgomery 7 Elizabeth A., (b. 1852) 8 John R. (18551880) married Sarah Jane Mahan. At least two of John and Betsy’s sons were soldiers during the Civil War. John E. Campbell died in Putnam County 14 Aug. 1900. His wife, Betsy, died there 2 Aug. 1891.


They are both buried in the Rhea Cemetery.Find A Grave Memorial# 55886810
