Biography

When Joseph Campbell was born in 1761 in Rockbridge, Virginia, his father, Robert, was 43 and his mother, Jane, was 19. He married Margaret Larkin in 1785. They had 11 children in 25 years. He died on May 2, 1812, in Winchester, Tennessee, at the age of 51.

10 Jun 1794: Robert Campbell of the County of Hawkins to Joseph Campbell, 130 acres on the North side of Holston River. [1]

11Feb 1804: Joseph Campbell of Hawkins County to George McMinn Frederick County, Maryland, 130 acres on the North side of Holston River. [2]

20 Dec 1808: State of North Carolina to Joseph Campbell, Land Grant No. 312, 225 acres in Green County on the south side of Holston River three miles above the mouth of French Broad River. [3]

Notes

  • Came with two brothers to Tazewell, Claiborne Co, where he bought large tracts of land which he lost by lawsuit. Reached middle Tenn. 1811.
  • Died May 2, 1812 near Winchester, Franklin Co., Tenn. Their children were:
