Obituary

DILLON HERALD Dillon, Dillon Co., SC Thursday, 2 August 1934

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Campbell Alford, 77, wife of the late Benjamin Ansel Alford, passed away at her home in the Floydale section at 6:30 Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Alford had been an invalid for ten years, but her illness became more serious a month ago. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church and was a lovely Christian woman. Her long illness was borne with patience, and her passing is mourned not only by her family but by numerous friends throughout the community.

Mrs. Alford was the daughter of Alexander and Catherine Buie Campbell and was born and reared at the home place of her parents and grandparents at Campbell's Bridge.

Funeral services were held at the late residence Sunday afternoon at 4:30, conducted by Rev. Fred J. Hay, pastor of the Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. J.P. Inabnit, pastor of the Methodist church.

The pallbearers were George Robert Alford, L.C. McLean, Ben Stackhouse, Harvey Floyd, Hugh McCormac, and Gene Stafford.

Interment was in Riverside cemetery, and a large concourse of relatives and friends assembled to pay a last tribute. There were many beautiful floral offerings.

Surviving are five children: Mrs. Marvin M. Stackhouse and Mrs. W.M. McLean, Dillon; Mrs. S.O. Wiggins, Winnsboro; J.C. and W.B. Alford, Floydale.
