James was mentioned on a memorial in Presbyterian Cemetery, New Market, Jefferson County, Tennessee, USA with a death date of 1826.[1]

James was born ca. 1758 near Appomatox Courthouse, VA. James Campbell ... He passed away in 1826. James Campbell, son of Archibald Campbell and Elizabeth Beard.

James enlisted in the 10th Virginia Regiment as a private in Capt. Clough Shelton's Company of Foot Dec 2, 1776. He served three years, his time expiring at Morristown NJ in 1779. He was a wagoner and National Archive records show him at Valley Forge, Brunswick, Camp Middlebrook, Smith's Clove, Ramapoo and Camp Haverstram. He was reported sick at Yellow Springs in August 1778 and sick at New Winsor NJ in October and November of 1778.

James married Jane Means, daughter of Robert and Betsy Robinson Means, in Campbell County VA 1784.

I was doing some research on this same James and I had ruled him out as my ancestor, here's a link for the will of James White Campbell: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/4064094:9176?tid=&pid=&queryId=fa8aad75-f786-40de-ad32-98a0ba75f143&_phsrc=jhG5614&_phstart=successSource
Campbell-19436 and Campbell-5327 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Manager of the new profile simply dis-attached the existing and correct profile. Proper procedure would have been not to create a new profile in the first place. If done by mistake, they should have proposed a merge of the new profile. Please accept this merge.
