| John (Campbell) Campbell Earl of Atholl was an inhabitant of Medieval Scotland. Join: Scotland Project Discuss: Scotland |
John was the eldest son of Neil Campbell and his (third) wife Mary de Brus, a younger sister of Robert I, King of Scots. His exact birthdate is unknown but he was said to be about 20 years of age when he was killed at the Battle of Halidon Hill in 1333,[1] suggesting a possible birthdate of 1313. However, because there is no evidence that his parents married until after his mother was released from her captivity in England (which was after the Battle of Bannockburn fought in June 1314) his birthdate was most likely to have been no earlier than 1315.
