Elias was a veteran of the War of 1812. He enlisted on 3 January 1814 and served in the 136th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia, which was commanded by Captain Moses Himrod. He was discharged on 5 February 1814.[1]
Elias Campbell married Sarah Wheeler on 29 January 1819 in Erie County, Pennsylvania. The couple had 5 children together:
In 1850, Elias and his family lived in Harborcreek, Erie County, Pennsylvania. His occupation was listed as farmer, and he apparently had one employee, Joseph Bristol, who was included in his household on the census record.[3]
By 1870, Elias Campbell had become a retired farmer. He and his wife, Sarah, lived with their daughter, Lucinda (Campbell) Kendrick and her husband Thomas Kendrick.[5]
At the time of the 1880 census, Elias was still live in his son-in-law's household, but his wife, Sarah, had died. Thomas, his son-in-law, was also a farmer and also had those he apparently employed included in his household on the census record.[7]
Elias Campbell died on 8 September, 1882. He was buried in North East Cemetery in North East, Erie County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in a plot with his wife and three children who had died at young ages.[9]
