Cautionary Note

There are many unsourced/poorly sourced trees on Internet that have tried to connect the wife of John Miller to the Duncan Campbell lineage. This has been proven false and no attempts should be made to create that connection. At this time no sources have been found for her last name.

  1. One of the records being used is for Agnes Campbell who married John M'Coull on 16 Jan 1605 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland[1]
  2. The record being used for the birth of John Miller is for a John Miller born in 1580 in Farnham, St Andrew, Surrey, England[2] who married Mary Plyston[3] No records have been found for a John Miller born 1580-1585 in Scotland to the parents shown. However, a record for John Millair, baptized on 02 Oct 1580 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland with parents William Millair and Isobel Cunninghame has been used in some trees.[4]
  3. There are numerous "sons" named John Miller born in 1606, but none indicated in Scotland.

Biography

Ann was born about 1586. She passed away about 1610.

8/1/2017: It is likely that Agnes Campbell is NOT the daughter of Sir Duncan Campbell and Janet Stewart given she is not listed as one of his children with Janet Stewart in the "Black Book of Taymouth" which documents the Campbell Royals in Scotland. I just determined this over the past two days.

Duncan Campbell and Janet Stewart did not have a daughter named Agnes. Please see Burkes Peerage 2003 volume 1, page 494. Their daughter Anne married Sir Patrick Ogilvy of Inchmartine.

Campbell-31509 and Campbell-8964 do not represent the same person because: These maybe the same person; however all indications are that an Agnes Miller was NOT the daughter of Sir Duncan Campbell (see my later comments on her profile). Jim Miller

Campbell-31509 and Campbell-8964 appear to represent the same person because: The parents on both profiles are the same people. The facts are the same.

Campbell-8964 and Campbell-23971 do not represent the same person because: In my thousands of hours of research on my Miller's of Virginia who arrived generally from Scotland in the 1600's, I found NO proof that a Angus (Campbell) Miller was the daughter of the feared Lord Duncan Campbell. Another researcher directed me to the old family book of Duncan Campbell's clan which clearly indicates that SIr Duncan Campbell's daughter (Angus) married a lord in Scotland (Not a Miller). Campbell-23569 and Campbell-8964 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles have approximately the same birth and death dates, and both are married to a John Miller. I've added a note to the profiles querying that Agnes is actually a daughter of Duncan Campbell, 7th of Glenorchy.

An early history of the Campbells of Glenorchy, The Black Book of Taymouth, fails to mention Agnes as a daughter of Duncan Campbell, 7th of Glenorchy by either wife. See page 24 here https://archive.org/stream/blackbookoftaymo00inneuoft#page/24/mode/2up
