Daniel Campbell served four years in the Confederate Army during the

Civil War. He was a private in Company D of the 7th Arkansas

Infantry. His widow's pension number was 2,008 assigned in 1907.

The 7th Arkansas Infantry, a body of 700 men, was in the 1st Brigade

of the Confederate 3rd Corps at the Battle of Shiloh:

Hardee's Corps was in the left-center of the Confederate attack on the

first day of the battle of Shiloh, and was on the far right (the river

side) on the morning of the second day, holding that position until

about noon. Shiloh was just one battle April 6-7, 1862 fought south

of Savannah on the west bank of the Tennessee River. It is known as

one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil Way with losses of over

10,000 on each side.
