http://www.trove.nla.gov.au/search/newspapers Sydney Morning Herald 1945 Nov 2 SMH: NO SIGN OF HUBBY FOR 13 YEARS ISSUE IN DIVORCE FOUND PROVED Edna Jean Kerr (formerly Cann), who resides with her mother at 22 Macquarie Street, Singleton, told his Honour Judge Nield yesterday that she had not seen her husband, Roy Joseph Kerr, for 13 years. After marriage at Singleton on October 1, 1931, according to the rites of the Methodist Church, Mrs. Kerr lived with her husband for 13 months, and was then told to get out. That was the "swan song” His Honour found the issues in divorce in favour of the petitioner. Mrs. Kerr was represented by Mr. C. R. Whitfield (Messrs Wm J. Cragg and Whitfield). After marriage, said Mrs. Kerr, she and her husband, who came from Bingara, went to Scone to reside with hubby's mother. She had been told to get out. She did, and after a week in residence back with mother along came all her belongings. Petitioner said she heard last Easter her husband was in Narrabri, and divorce papers had been served on him. She had taken up divorce proceedings in 1939 and 1940, but never went on with them. She explained the delay in proceedings by stating that her husband never supported her after the parting, and she was working two days a week for £1. Zeta Melba Williams, sister of the petitioner, and wife of Harold Gordon Williams, said she had never seen her sister in the company of her husband since she had come home in 1932.
