William Canning lived at Barton-on-the-Heath, Warwickshire, before relocating to co. Londonderry when his father became agent of the Ironmongers.
The Hearth Money Roll (1663) for co. Londonderry lists a Paul Canning, at Agivey, and Edward Canning at Mocosquin-Camus, which is about 2 1/2 miles SW of Coleraine.
The Merchant Taylors' Company owned the estate on which Edward Canning apparently was living in 1663, while the Ironmongers" Company owned the estates of Lizard Manor, in Aghadowey, and Agivey, but they were leased by the Canning family, who also owned the Garvagh estate.
William Canning had two daughters, Mary Canning and Dorothy Canning.
