Kessiah was born 2 July 1852 in Tennessee. Her parents are at this time unknown. She passed away on 26 July 1907 in Kaufman County, Texas and is buried in Cottonwood Cemetery, Kaufman County.[1] She shares a grave marker with husband Azariah and her name is given on the stone as Kisil.
Name
Kessiah's given name(s) can be confusing. The marriage record gives it as Kia Jane. 1870 census has Ellender; 1880 has Martha. On her gravestone the name is Kisil. On the death record of her daughter Rhoda her name is Kisiah Ellender. On the death record of her son Levi the name is Kisil. Nowhere in records is the name given as Luellender; only twice is Ellender found. It does appear as if Kisil was the preferred name, at least near the end of her life.
Marriage & Children
Kia Jane Cantrell married Azariah Lasater on 19 July 1866 (license issued 18 July 1866) in DeKalb County, Tennessee. Her name has been also read as Rosa Jane. In looking at the image of the marriage record it is somewhat difficult to read her name. It is not Rosa, because the first part of the name is only three letters. It does appear as if it is a K not an R. (Anyone looking at the image from the link given here is welcome to offer an opinion.)[2]
Mary Elizabeth Lasater, 19 February 1876-25 January 1917[7]
Harriet Ellender [Ella] Lasater, 18 April 1878-10 March 1908[8]

If Azariah and Kissiah had other children, they have not been located yet.
