Josie was born about 1862 in Dade County, Georgia.^[1] she is the daughter of Shadrack "Shade" Hale and Sarah Jane Guinn.^[2] She passed away after 1940 in Rising Fawn, Dade County, Georgia. (She is listed with husband Robert on the 1940 census.)

Josie married John Marion Cantrell, widower of her sister Mary M Hale, on 17 April 1902 in Dade County, Georgia.^[3]

Josie married second Robert Lee Cagle as second wife on 3 February 1923 in Rising Fawn, Dade County, Georgia.
