William Capell, 3rd Earl of Essex (1697-1743) was the son of Lt.-Gen. Algernon Capell, 2nd Earl of Essex and Lady Mary Bentinck. He m.(1) Lady Jane Hyde, daughter of Henry Hyde, 4th Earl of Clarendon and Jane Leveson-Gower, on 27 November 1718 and (2) Lady Elizabeth Russell, daughter of Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford and Elizabeth Howland, on 3 February 1726. He succeeded his father as 3rd Earl of Essex on 10 January 1709/10. .He died on 8 January 1743.
William Capell succeeded his father as 3rd Earl of Essex in 1710. He was invested as a Knight of the Thistle 2 Feb 1725, which he resigned in 1738 to be invested as a Knight of the Garter in Feb. 1738. He was appointed Privy Councillor in 1735.
