Louis X, King of France, was the eldest son of Philip IV "the Fair" and his wife Jeanne de Navarre-Champagne. By his first wife, Marguerite de Bourgogne, he had only one daughter, Jeanne. Marguerite was later convicted of adultery and emprisoned at Château-Gaillard, casting doubt on her daughter's legitimacy.
Marguerite having died in prison shortly after Louis succeeded his father as King of France, he married, secondly, Clementia of Hungary. She was pregnant when he died suddenly at age 27. She delivered a son, Jean, who died after six days. The Crown of France went to Louis's next brother, Philippe; his daughter Jeanne received the crown of Navarre.
He had an illegitimate daughter with a woman named "Endeline". The girl became a nun.
His nickname "Hutin" means quarrelsome, troublesome, headstrong.
