Biography

CAPPS, Chester C., age 70, of 3145 Bennett Ave. passed away in a local hospital Friday, Oct. 5, (1956). Mr. Capps had resided in this community for the past 37 years and for 35 years had been employed as a shift foreman at the Olympic Portland Cement Co. Deceased was the 25th Master of Whatcom Lodge No. 151 F. & A.M., and was a member of the Lodge of Perfection of Scottish Rite.

Surviving relatives are his widow, Nellie J. [1]at home; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Woodworth, of Tacoma and Mrs. Thelma Nadine Jeter of Anacortes; two sons, Chester N. of Port Angeles and Francis J. of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; one brother, George N. Capps of Kansas City, Kansas and one sister, Mrs. Ina Mary Johnston of Kelso, Wn.

The remains rest at Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick and Officers of the Masonic Lodge Monday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.


CAPPS, Chester N. - Graveside services for former Bellingham resident Chester N. Capps Sr. will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Greenacres Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Port Angeles with the Rev. Ted Mattie officiating. Mr. Capps of Port Angeles died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1993, in Port Angeles. He was 82.

Born June 14, 1911, to Chester C. and Nellie Martindale Capps in Kansas City, Kan., he was 8 when the family moved to Bellingham. He married Nellie Biery in Bellingham on Aug. 25, 1938. Mr. Capps trained and worked in Bellingham as a State Farm Insurance agent for one year, then moved to Port Angeles in 1952 and took over a State Farm office there. He ran the office for more than 30 years before retiring. He joined the Whatcom Masonic lodge in 1936, transferring to Port Angeles in 1952. He was past parton of Esther Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Port Angeles. Mr. Capps was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Angeles for 41 years.

Survivors include his wife of the family home; son Chester N. Capps Jr. of Port Angeles; daughter Susana Yost of Arizona; sister Thelma Jeter of Kent; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Arrangements by Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel in Port Angeles.
