DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
I am doing a chromosome mapping of Descendants to assist with the connection between this branch and a scottish house. You are welcome to come and add to the effort. The link [1] will be regularly upgraded.
Concerning his birth -
The FindaGrave memorial website you provide lists his birthplace as England.
Your Historical Southern Families, Vol. XIX, Cardwell of Virginia, page 12 citation states
"He was born ca 1686, probably in New Kent County"
One document I have found (see citation below) lists his birthplace as only VA.
Can you provide an actual reference for the birth location of New Kent, VA?

Teri Sue Young-Thompson posted the FindaGrave memorial. You would have to check with her where she obtained her information for an England birth. Thomas, Jr. his father was born in VA in 1660 son of Thomas, Sr. who immigrated to VA in about 1636. I'm quite certain VA was this Thomas' birth place.
I completely agree Cardwell-1448 is not a match. Reading through the information on Cardwell-1448 he had different parents than Cardwell-6. It was extremely common for brothers and sisters to name their children similarly to each other at that time.
Martha Ann Marin Perrin-33 [daughter of Richard Perrin, Jr Perrin-2063 & Ann Gros Marin -588] is the granddaughter of Richard E. Perrin-673 & Katherine Ann Royall-7. Martha Perrin-2256 therefore is their daughter & aunt of Martha A. M. Perrin-33, plus sister of her father. It seems unlikely that Thomas R. Cardwell -6 wouldve been married to both.
It also seems unlikely that Thomas wouldve had two sons named George Cardwell-1238 & George Cardwell-228 that lived and went on to both die on the same date 28 May 1765.
Cardwell-983 and Cardwell-6 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Betty! I reproposed this merge, as they have the same dates & same parents. I don't see any reason to delay the merge. -983 & -6 are obviously (to me) meant to represent the same person.
If you postponed the merge because you think they're different people, that's different (and, if they are different - I apologize & you were right to postpone the merge, but they sure look like the same person to me).
Cardwell-983 and Cardwell-6 are not ready to be merged because: I think this was an orphaned profile that I adopted, the couple are my husband's 6th great grandparents. I did this recently & haven't had time to tweet everything. The dates I have for Thomas R. Cardwell-983 are b. 1685 & d. 7 Apr 1750. He died intestate and the probate for the inventory of his property was 29 May 1751 in Cumberland Co., VA. Also, Thomas Cardwell-6 is listed as the Brother of Thomas R. Cardwell. Right now merging could cause a big mess. I also have his mother as Ann 'Little Flower' Baskett or Bassett, not Mary Ann.
Hi! I reviewed the MatchBot-proposed merge of Cardwell-983 and Cardwell-6 & confirmed they're duplicates. They have the same place and date of birth as well as death. Parents and spouse are also the same. Thanks! ~ MatchBot MP (MatchBot Monitors Project)
P.S. I've checked and Cardwell-6 is the lowest-numbered profile.
