This John Carew was styled the One handed from having lost his right hand at the siege of Ostend, 1601.
He afterwards settled as a Merchant in Mevagissey. His son Richard died without issue, and his five daughters and co heiresses married into the Hoblyn, Tremayne, and Trevanion families.
