Marguerite was born in Saint-Henri-de-Lauzon, Bas-Canada on 11 August 1811, daughter of Pierre Caron and Marguerite Gosselin. She was baptized there the same day.[1]
On her 24th birthday, she married Pierre Mercier at the Catholic parish of Saint-Isidore in Dorchester. [2]
